Book Club's official book is Kill Me by Stephen White

I have started our Bossier Voices Book Club’s first book called "Kill Me" by Stephen White. For new book club members it’s going to be a page turner.
I went to Books A Million in Bossier City and ordered copies of the book for the club. If you are a teacher they offer a 20 percent discount. I have joined their book discount card club and get 15 percent off. I ordered it in paperback books for us and I bought one of two copies they had available. The book is $9.95 without the discount. Those who want to join, please let me know and I will use my discount card for you if you are not a teacher.

I have not checked amazon.com prices. There also is an online book rental place similar to netflicks that will send the book and patrons must return it after they read it that costs $9 per month to join and you can read as many books as you like.

If you guys have any better ideas lemme know. I read the first chapter of the book and it’s exciting and an easy read – although, there’s a lot of directional east-west stuff I want to discuss with you ladies – men writers!

I think we should all get the books by the end of next week so we can start discussing chapter one. Please let me know if that’s doable on this blog.

I checked Amazon and it's about the same price $9.99, I think. Sounds like Books a Million has a good deal and I like shopping local.

Hey guys!
Books a Million called and they have all the books in FINALLY! In the meantime, I have been busy gaining weight and paying Weightwatchers exhorbitant amounts of money. So, if you all agree, I think we should meet on Thursday Oct. 18 at the Carriage Oaks facility. Meantime, I've got the first two chapters ready for discussion.
Thanks!
Jane

The first two chapters? Are you serious? At that rate we'll be suffering with this book for months. I thought we should have the book finished by the meeting.

I, too, thought we would be reading a book a month to talk about. I have finished it, for the 2nd time. It was just as good the 2nd time around, maybe even better. Come on, Jane, down shift and get her goin'.

How is everyone doing with the book? I don't think The "Death Angels" are people I would like to know. I am a typical woman in that respect; I like to change my mind if and when and as many times as I want. Any comments? Let's get a little chatter going.

I've only had my book for a few weeks and read daily, but I'm only about halfway finished. Maybe since we didn't all get the book at the same time, we could have a little extra time to finish it. I do think one book a month is a realistic goal, but would like a little extra time.--Just a thought

Hey Folks, I finished the book and not a moment too soon. I found myself not liking the main character from the start to finish. By the end it was too late for me to symathize with his dilemma. I'm looking forward to meeting with everyone this Thursday. Lisa D

Hey, Are we still on for Thursday the 18 at Carriage Oaks? What time do we need to be there?

I am assuming it will be at 7:00pm.
See you there.

What is the address of the Carriage Oaks Facility? I'm not that familiar with Bossier.

Well, I drove around Carriage Oaks in the dark last night and the only club house I found was dark. Did you meet?

Oh No! I'm am so sorry, Elizabeth!! As it turns out the Club house was already booked for that evening so we changed the location to my house, three houses down from the Club house. I will need to get your email address so we can keep in conact via email. We chose the next book: Water for Elephants. Please accept my sincerest apologies.

Now I'm mad. Why wasn't I notified? I asked the question about location more than once in these blogs and received no reply from anyone. I gave my phone and e-mail address at the first meeting. Someone should have called or e-mailed me.

Your email address must be incorrectly listed. I tried to send everyone a message and yours came back undeliverable. Sorrrrrrrrrrrry about the mix up.

elizabeth, I understand your anger. Please accept my apology for the mix-up. While the blog is great for constant on going communication, I would prefer that personal information be kept within the confinds of email communication. We will need to revisit and update the email addresses that were volunteered at the Shogun dinner/meeting. Once again, I'm really sorry!! lisa d

Elizabeth, I also tried to e-mail you a few times and my messages came back as undeliverable. We did miss you and hope to see you next time.

Evidently, there is some problem with the e-mail. I will send the correct address and my phone number to Jane one more time and she can forward it to you.

Has anyone started the new book, Water for Elephants? It jumps back and forth between different time periods, pretty quickly in the first few chapters. Lisa D

I found the book at Target and started reading it this week. I'm just now getting to the part where he is hired by the circus. It sounds like a pretty hard life to me!

Way to go Lisa, good job! Just read your article in Voices and really enjoyed it.

Thanks Donna, writing about the meeting was WAY too much fun. I only wish some of the other topics of discussion from the dinner could have also made it into print. I think it might have been edited out for obvious reasons though.

Anyway, hope your enjoying the new book. I love the main character in this novel. Even though he is thrown into a caldron of chaos early on, he calmly perseveres. Well, perhaps working in a circus is not the best situation; but, it beats riding that train without any direction.

I finished the book a few days ago. The ending was unexpected, but perfect. I enjoyed the humor surrounding the life of the old man and actually laughed out loud a few times. How is everyone else coming along?

I finished the book yesterday. It was OK; I've read better. However, it was quite amusing and I loved the ending--couldn't have been more fitting. Do we have a date for the next meeting?

Becky, I agree, the ending was wonderful. I kept cheering on the old man until the very end.

Has anyone else finished the book? It would be great to get together to see everyone and discuss the book. As December looks pretty booked already (no pun indented) we could try for the first part of January. Any other ideas? Lisa D.
