Legacy Elementary School soon to be reality

This morning I went out to the groundbreaking for the new Legacy Elementary School. The weather was fine - cool and sunny - and everyone involved was almost giddy with excitement. If their children are now attending overcrowded schools like Apollo Elementary, they should be happy.
The new 64,000-square-foot school, slated for just beyond the Legacy subdivision is Legacy Elementary School which will service kindergarten to grade 5 students. It will be east of Airline Drive on the north side of Swan Lake Road, adjacent to the Legacy subdivision at 4830 Swan Lake Road.
The mega-school in the mega-new community is slated to open in summer of 2008.
Legacy architect Lauren Marchive said although tentative boarders have been drawn up for the proposed new schools including: Legacy Elementary School, WT Lewis Elementary School and Parkway High School, they are not definite. Parkway High School will remain at its old address and its boundaries will not change. WT Lewis Elementary School is slated for Monica Lot Road, west of the upscale Stonebridge subdivision. All together, there will be two elementary schools and the new Parkway High School.
Construction costs for the new Legacy School are about $8 million. The exterior style of the school will complement the Legacy community’s style of clean lines and brick walls.
“It will be similar to the surrounding community with pitched roofs, asphalt shingles, brick and painted sidings that are similar to the residences,” Marchive said.
Now if your kid could just get in...
